This is my daughter and her husband, posing before our tour on our first trip to Mount Vernon. Mt Vernon is someplace I’ve always wanted to see. Since I’m the family vacation planner, they came along as planned — and enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all the folks at Mt Vernon for a delightful visit to a beautiful site. NT Lester, 2018

It was Presidents‘ Day weekend and we came to Mount Vernon to enjoy the special events. In the lobby of the education center, visitors were invited to “Pose Like the Prez” in front of a backdrop of the Lansdowne portrait. My four-year-old daughter was too small to don the ruffled shirt and jacket, but put on the tri-corner hat and took the sword. The woman running the photo spot showed her a copy of the original portrait of Washington and then took her over to the backdrop and said, "sword down, right hand up, look off into the future" and my daughter struck this pose without missing a beat. We’ve been to Mount Vernon many times, but this is one of my favorite pictures. Kristen Palmieri, 2018

Henry dressed up for his 7th birthday and enjoyed an early morning walk through the gates of Mt Vernon. As we walked up hill we encountered re-enactors setting up camp and he was pretty surprised and excited to see he had walked in the middle of an eighteenth century camp. Here is a picture with his fellow soldiers, who broke `rank` to make his day! Fred Cappa, 2016

My boyfriend ( now husband) and I visited Mount Vernon with my parents and their good friends for the spring Wine Festival at Mount Vernon in May 2010. We enjoyed picnicking on the lawn overlooking the Potomac River, seeing the mansion by candlelight, and being welcomed to their home by General and Mrs. Washington. Cynthia Brenner, 2010

This was the first time back to Mount Vernon in over 25 years. It was great to see the mansion and the working farm is amazing! We really enjoyed seeing the animals, the grounds and plants. They are so well cared for. Everyone was so helpful when we had questions. I was with my medical alert service dog: Houdini the Wonderdog. He was fascinated by Aladdin the Camel, as well as the sheep. It meant a lot to reconnect with the estate, especially since we moved to this area within the last two years. Understanding the history and seeing how it is kept alive makes you appreciate the challenges of farming, as well as the innovations and care Washington had for his grounds, the crops, the mill and so much more. Seeing the grounds and the farm after shopping at the Alexandria Old Town Farmer's Market makes me think of how goods were transported with horse and cart over that distance. It helps to give perspective to the planting, raising, selling or preserving crops versus today we just drive to a grocery store. It's an 18th-century reality check! We really enjoyed the visit and we posted more pictures of the visit on the dog blog https://www.houdini.dog/wp/meeting-the-washingtons-at-mount-vernon/. Shannon Beck, 2019
