My son Arlen and I visited Mount Vernon at the end of an epic, two week ‘racecation’ out east. I am currently trying to complete a half marathon in all 50 states. Last summer I completed 6 half marathons, in 6 different states, in 6 days! We began our journey in Central Illinois, then headed to Niagara Falls, Canada. After that we drove through every North East State. I would race in the morning and we would go siteseeing in the afternoon. While in New York City, we stumbled upon the location of Washington’s inauguration. Of all the presidential homes and museums we saw along the way, Mount Vernon was, by far, the most meanful. We are both looking forward to returning some day - I haven’t completed a half marathon in Virginia yet, we will be back for sure! JoAnna Magelitz, 2019

My boyfriend ( now husband) and I visited Mount Vernon with my parents and their good friends for the spring Wine Festival at Mount Vernon in May 2010. We enjoyed picnicking on the lawn overlooking the Potomac River, seeing the mansion by candlelight, and being welcomed to their home by General and Mrs. Washington. Cynthia Brenner, 2010

We were at Mt. Vernon on Feb.12, 2020. We retired in Oct. of 2019, and hit the road to historical sites. We loved Mount Vernon. Your wonderful fifer played Nothing Could Be Finer than to be in Carolina when he found out we were from S.C. We loved the restaurant you have. We actually ate there two evenings. My husband is in the picture. Your museum is awesome!

On October 25, 2015, our family went trick-or-treating at Mount Vernon. The estate is absolutely beautiful in the fall and we had a wonderful time taking a wagon ride, visiting the outbuildings, meeting Lady Washington, and playing on the lawn. These are my daughters, Daphne Taylor, who was seven at the time and dressed as Ben Gunn from "Treasure Island", and Vivian Taylor, who was six and dressed as Mavis Dracula from "Hotel Transylvania." We brought our two daughters (ages 12 & 18) to Washington D.C.in April 2018 to see all of the highlights the area has to offer, as we all love American History. Mount Vernon has always been a must-see when my husband and I have visited D.C. in the past, so it was a must for our girls. It captured our hearts to see where the Father of our country lived, to see all of the new renovations, and tour the incredible visitor's center with the amazing "Be Washington Interactive Theatre". We even purchased additional tickets for the "National Treasure Tour" which added some mystery, new facts and gave us a personal connection to the estate. We had a gem of a guide who well-versed in her knowledge of history but also very entertaining to boot! Thank you for preserving Mt. Vernon, where we can all feel so patriotically inspired and empowered by just visiting this magnificent American landmark! Cathy Rudmann, 2018

On July 4th, our daughter Hayley was invited by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) to deliver a public address on the grounds of Mount Vernon. That year, Hayley was the national winner of the SAR's Joseph Rumbaugh Oratory contest, and she reprised her winning oration on "freedom of speech" prior to a ceremonial visit to General Washington's tomb. We were invited as a family to join the earlier procession down the front lawn of Mount Vernon, in company with other descendants of Revolutionary War patriots. The photo was taken during that procession. Ernest Snowden, 2014

My brother and his family were visiting my mom over Christmas. I suggested we go to Mount Vernon (I'm the picture taker!). It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed meeting Aladdin the camel and viewing the mansion decorations. Mount Vernon is lovely to visit in any season. Margo Cunniffe, 2016

This was the first time any of us had ever been to Washington DC, and we were excited to see Mount Vernon. In the picture are Chris and Grace Lievsay, and their two children Benjamin (age 6) and Emily (age 4). Chris Lievsay, 2019

In 2017 my 2 kids were living in NC with their dad and it was a big change for all of us. Their step dad Ron and I flew out there, picked them up in a rented car and spent a great spring break in DC. The tornado hit the tidal basin the night we arrived! The icing on our trip cake was visiting Mount Vernon. We wanted to understand Washington better and see what captivated his heart the way Mt Vernon did. Laura Dalrymple, 2017

I play 18th century music in the Itinerant Band and we have provided music to Mount Vernon for over twenty years. This picture was taken in September of 2011 while we were playing for the Market Fair. This is the same metal bench my mother, Helen Clark, sat on as a ten year old girl in a visit to Mount Vernon on Labor Day weekend in 1939. I had my picture taken standing next to it as a connection to her visit decades ago. She is 91 now and remembers in great detail her visit to the mansion, the gardens and the kitchen. I am sending this picture in case you wanted to put this together with the picture of her from 1939. Bob Clark, 2011

I had a spare day to spend on a trip to Northern Virginia for my cousin's wedding. I chose to spend it with one of my favorite people of all time, George Washington. Joel Sawyer, 2017
