My wife and I were out there December 13, 2019, for the Mt Vernon by Candle Light Tour. It was a foggy night, and you could see the light coming out of the front of the mansion, cutting through it. Brent McDonald, 2019

Fireworks at Mount Vernon - Independence Day and Christmas - have become an important family tradition. My two boys especially love walking the grounds at night and sitting under the stars along the Potomac. Here, 2 year old Ronan, is gazing in wonder at the fireworks illuminating the sky. We brought our two daughters (ages 12 & 18) to Washington D.C.in April 2018 to see all of the highlights the area has to offer, as we all love American History. Mount Vernon has always been a must-see when my husband and I have visited D.C. in the past, so it was a must for our girls. It captured our hearts to see where the Father of our country lived, to see all of the new renovations, and tour the incredible visitor's center with the amazing "Be Washington Interactive Theatre". We even purchased additional tickets for the "National Treasure Tour" which added some mystery, new facts and gave us a personal connection to the estate. We had a gem of a guide who well-versed in her knowledge of history but also very entertaining to boot! Thank you for preserving Mt. Vernon, where we can all feel so patriotically inspired and empowered by just visiting this magnificent American landmark! Cathy Rudmann, 2018

My boyfriend ( now husband) and I visited Mount Vernon with my parents and their good friends for the spring Wine Festival at Mount Vernon in May 2010. We enjoyed picnicking on the lawn overlooking the Potomac River, seeing the mansion by candlelight, and being welcomed to their home by General and Mrs. Washington. Cynthia Brenner, 2010

My wife, Jocelyn, and I are Cupola Society members and we frequently walk the Mount Vernon Estate with our black labrador, Sally. Having lived in the Washington D.C. area for over 35 years, we feel fortunate to live so close to President Washington's home and to able to visit so often. We bring every out-of-town guest to walk the Estate with us and to enjoy the view of the Potomac River from the back portico. David Hunn, 2020

On July 4th, our daughter Hayley was invited by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) to deliver a public address on the grounds of Mount Vernon. That year, Hayley was the national winner of the SAR's Joseph Rumbaugh Oratory contest, and she reprised her winning oration on "freedom of speech" prior to a ceremonial visit to General Washington's tomb. We were invited as a family to join the earlier procession down the front lawn of Mount Vernon, in company with other descendants of Revolutionary War patriots. The photo was taken during that procession. Ernest Snowden, 2014

Ssgt James Burton Moore and Gemma Rose are featured in this photo. Gemma at the time was in school for her Masters in Library Information Science and majored in archiving. She asked James if he would take her there because she wanted to use the new AI Mount Vernon just launched the week prior. Sadly due to poor weather they were unable to use the new technology. But even in the freezing rain they both still had a wonderful time touring the house and talking with docents. Gemma Rose, 2019

My husband and I are blessed to have 21 grandchildren. We decided when the first three grandchildren Alli, Jake and Ben became teens in 2013, we'd take them to visit the Washington D. C. area. We chose Memorial week-end since it was the beginning of summer and many patriotic activities took place in D.C. We saved the final day of our trip to visit Mt. Vernon, which they agreed was their favorite. Since we had so much fun we returned in 2015 with three new teens - Luke, Anna, and Elizabeth. Before returning to St. Louis we again enjoyed a great day at Mt. Vernon. Two years later on Memorial week-end 2017 we returned with three new teens - Mark, Will, and Grace. Each time we returned to Mt. Vernon we learned more as tours changed or improved. We planned to take three more grands this year, but due to Covid-19 we are holding back, yet hope by the 4th of July 2000, it will be a healthier safer country and we can return to Washington D.C. and Mt. Vernon with Adaeze, Sophia, and Jack. Jenni Loynd, 2013

My son Arlen and I visited Mount Vernon at the end of an epic, two week ‘racecation’ out east. I am currently trying to complete a half marathon in all 50 states. Last summer I completed 6 half marathons, in 6 different states, in 6 days! We began our journey in Central Illinois, then headed to Niagara Falls, Canada. After that we drove through every North East State. I would race in the morning and we would go siteseeing in the afternoon. While in New York City, we stumbled upon the location of Washington’s inauguration. Of all the presidential homes and museums we saw along the way, Mount Vernon was, by far, the most meanful. We are both looking forward to returning some day - I haven’t completed a half marathon in Virginia yet, we will be back for sure! JoAnna Magelitz, 2019
