One of the first things we did when we moved to the area last summer was head to Mount Vernon. It was an extremely hot and humid day, so the kids enjoyed the break on the back patio chairs overlooking the Potomac. Megan Walterscheid, 2019To celebrate the 4th of July in 2019, we decided to head to Mount Vernon to see the daytime fireworks. Our son was still too young to stay up for evening fireworks, so Mount Vernon was the perfect option for us! We had a slice of the birthday cake, explored the grounds, and enjoyed the show from the mansion's lawn. For years these two ladies who were in college together in later 1950’s and who taught fourth grade in Fairfax County from 1959-1963 have been meeting for lunch at the Mount Vernon Tea Room. They are now 83 year old widows and took two high school students for their last meeting In July 2017. There used to be three ladies. Out first apartment was just off Mt Vernon Parkway and it was the week-end rest for young teachers. Now it is walker accessible for old ladies. .This old history major from VA has enjoyed seeing where I can no longer go. Thank you. Patsy Ray,

This was my THIRD trip back to Mount Vernon, it's one of my favorite places in the world and every time I make it back to Virginia I have to visit! My best friend, Katie, and her fiance, Kolton, graciously agreed to spending a chilly January day with me at Mount Vernon. It was cold, but I can't imagine a better day! We even got to meet Martha Washington and had a lovely visit with her, telling her all about Katie and Kolton's wedding. Hopefully, when this virus is over, I'll get to visit again soon! The picture shows my husband and me on our wedding day. Four years before we were married, I attended the Teacher's Institute at Mount Vernon as I teach ELA and History to fifth graders at a middle school in Massachusetts. I absolutely fell in love with George Washington and Mount Vernon as a result. When my husband and I finally decided to get married after 10 years, we chose Mount Vernon Inn as our venue and September 17 (Constitution Day) as our date. We only invited one other couple to witness our nuptials who are our best friends neither of whom had ever been to Mount Vernon. When we finished our cozy ceremony and ate one of the best meals of our lives, we all went into Mount Vernon. While I showed them around, we took pictures on our special day at George Washington's beautiful homestead. It was a day we all will never forget. This picture is not only hanging in our Livingroom, but also in my classroom where every year, my students admire it as they learn about George Washington and celebrate Constitution Day. Thank you for the wonderful memories! Jennifer Hegedus, 2016

This was during Revolutionary War Weekend 2017- it was actually my third trip to Mt. Vernon, I have been there four times total, all during the semester I spent in DC that Spring. It was beautiful, every history lover’s dream: the times and people that only seemed to reside in history books all came to life before me as if I had gone back in time. And there he was: George Washington, welcoming us to his home, and telling us about the Revolutionary War from his own perspective. I never fully understood what drew Washington away from public life and back to Mt. Vernon until I stood on the piazza and looked out onto the Potomac. It was so peaceful. I get chills and every time I think about it, I can’t seem to wrap my head around the idea that I set foot in the same place the Washington family called home, in addition to being a place which has been traversed by so many great individuals throughout history. My daughter Lorelai is in this picture in front of the main house at Mount Vernon. This was her first time to Mount Vernon, this was my 4th time visiting because I love it there so much. So much had changed and was improved from the last time I had visited about 20 years ago. We had a great time this day exploring the grounds while listening to the audio tour. It was a great sunny day. We had a delicious lunch at the inn where Lorelai was adventurous and ordered the peanut soup. One of the highlights was visiting with Martha Washington, she was so charismatic and told such interesting stories. The estate and grounds are so picturesque, especially the view of the Potomac and the porch where we sat and took many more photos. Heather McKenzie, 2020

The most amazing day of my life. My Sweetheart and I found each other again after 40 years, and fell in love all over again. On our fairy tale day, we had lunch at the Inn, then he surprised me with a proposal. I said yes, a million times yes. Thank you to George Washington's Mount Vernon and the staff for the most amazing day of my life. We will be back!! Melissa Kurtz, 2020
