Our oldest son was a Congressional intern last summer and my in-laws and my husband and other son and friend went to visit him and returned to Mount Vernon for the second time. We got to celebrate the Fourth of July celebration in the most gorgeous historical place I’ve ever visited. Arlene Kerschner, 2019

This is my husband, son, grandsons & family friend getting ready to enjoy the fireworks! We were visiting our grandson (on right) in Washington DC where he was serving as an aide to one of our Indiana congressmen. We had been to Mount Vernon the year before & enjoyed it so much we wanted to return. It was an experience we'll never forget! Cheryl Kerschner, 2019

On one of my trips to D.C. the Trump Hotel concierge recommended the George Washington Mount Vernon Estate. Thank you MV Ladies for keeping up the grounds, animals, distillery, history, events, for generations to come! Hoping all good as expected. This was during the Cherry Blossom Festival Sun 4-5/4-8-2019 Love the view from the porch, and chairs over looking the Potomac River. I saw it proper to celebrate our First President by wearing my God Bless America Guayabera dress. Some selfies for #MyMountVernon story!Barbara Grant, 2019

We were in Washington DC in the fall of 2013. The government was shut down during most of the trip but Mount Vernon was open since it is privately maintained. We felt we were fortunate to have been there during this time as we might have missed Mount Vernon otherwise and it was a great experience. The estate was incredible but I was taken by the huge pecan tree, which is no longer there. It dwarfed the house, which was quite large. George Washington had a great view! The government opened up the last few days of the trip so we did get to go to some of the museums. Wendy Wolfe, 2013

The picture is of my son. He just graduated from college and moved to Alexandria, Virginia and he loved it. I went to visit him and he suggested going to Mount Vernon. It's not really his thing but he's a good guy and said "let's go." He liked the upstairs of the house but he loved the basement tour and the different reenactments in the gardens. I forgot to pick up a copy of the guidebook because I bought another book in the gift shop. The next week he went back to Mount Vernon and bought the guidebook for me for Christmas that year. Kyle Kappmeier,
I have been enamored by Washington ever since I was a boy. Growing up in the crossroads of the Revolution in Nj, minutes from Morristown, where His Winter HQ was, and even Washington’s Crossing, the one place we never made it to was His home. Last year, our daughter had an out of state soccer tournament in Maryland and my family surprised me by leaving a day early so we could make the pilgrimage together. Incredible emotion, a beautiful day and a bucket list item checked off the list! Of course, I had to bring Washington’s Standard along for the trip! Kyle Kappmeier, 2019

This photo represents our Mount Vernon alter egos. The photo on the right portrays my wife Daphne and I in our living history attire while attending Revolutionary War Weekend in 2017. The photo on the left portrays us visiting in March 2019 when we decided we needed some spring cheer. It's a place we visit to reconnect with the past in a way that gives meaning to the present and reconnect with the spirit of our founders. It lets us also enrich and share that passion and appreciation for history with other visitors. Mount Vernon is our "happy place"; in fact, we even got married there in 2011! Along with our alter egos, we look forward to visiting again when it is safe to reopen again soon. Bryan Keohane, 2019

This is a photo of my Mother-in-Law who visited Mount Vernon while in Washington DC on her honeymoon. She grew up off of Vernon Avenue in Long Island City, New York, which was named after the same Admiral Vernon. Little did she know her son would be living on what was once part of Mount Vernon. Hello! This was a trip taken over the Fourth of July weekend, 2016. I traveled to Mount Vernon with my boyfriend, and our itinerary included Alexandria (including a watch of the fireworks on the Fourth!), Washington, D.C., and Mount Vernon. The latter was our first stop, and, as with every visit I have had to Mount Vernon, I enjoyed it immensely. I first visited Mount Vernon, Monticello, Williamsburg, and Washington, D.C., with my parents and sister when I was eight years old, and my sister was five. We have been 'fans' and visitors of these same destinations ever since. I fell in love with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson from that young age, and I have been captivated via books, lectures and tours ever since. The Fourth of July weekend was especially significant for obvious historic reasons, but I remember it was an absolutely gorgeous day on the day this photo was taken (2 July 2016). Wind was almost non-existent, the river was calm, and I saw barely one cloud in the sky. This is a photo that I love taking with every visit. Wherever and whenever I travel, I love looking up. I think some of most interesting detail of any place (and that takes the viewer back in time) is toward the top and at the top of buildings. And, when I look up, I feel closer to the person who inhabited or who frequented a place. I am also an architecture enthusiast, and I enjoy finding the best angles of a house to showcase the juxtaposition of windows and doors. I thought the angle with the cupola on the right and the bevy of flowers/vines on the left offered a bit of symmetry as I looked upon the house, and the convex angle served to connect them both. Additionally, every time I visit Mount Vernon, I tend to stare upwards at the upper and lower windows but only certain ones. Typically, those from the New Room and above, the study, and the bedroom. I think, perhaps, because so many meaningful events and activities took place in these rooms. But my trip on this day also saw us walk around the estate, visiting the sheep, gravesites (old and new), docks, as well as the gristmill and distillery. So many fascinating things to see! :) Cynthia Miller, 2016
